“This imperial town is cimbly surrounded by very wide and very deep ditches and is situated on a hill on the Necker not far from its and the Thonaw’s origin under the small country of Baar and a good 5 miles from Schaffhausen. It is said to have been the name of a village of a red warlike people and to have received this name from the Cimbris, who are said to have settled here when they were slain by the Romans. It is said to have remained a village for a long time, which is why it is considered by the common people to be one of the 4th villages of the empire. …”
