The rigid airship LZ127 Graf Zeppelin is considered the most successful commercial airship of its time. It was put into service in 1928 and was given the aircraft registration number D-LZ127. The LZ127 became famous for its numerous spectacular voyages. These included the 20-day world tour and the polar voyage.
Claude Honoré Désiré Dornier was an employee of Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin from 1910 and was given his own department within the Zeppelin Group, the DO department. In 1917 he became a partner and managing director of a branch factory, Zeppelin-Werk Lindau GmbH, which he took over completely in 1932 and from which the Dornier-Werke developed. Due to the requirements of the Treaty of Versailles, many boats were built in Altenrhein, Switzerland, including the DoX.
