The BMW 328 numbers among the dream sports cars of the late 1930’s. Built in Eisenach, Germany, it made its first appearance at the Eifelrennen race in 1936 on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. Ernst Jakob Henne drove at an average speed of 101.6 km/h and won the 2-litre sports car class (without a compressor).
The 328 is an open two-seater based on the four-seater Type 326 touring model. Its six-cylinder inline engine generates 59 kW/80 horsepower.
For the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1939, BMW commissioned the coachbuilder Touring in Milan with the construction of a coupé on the 328 chassis. Max zu Schaumburg-Lippe and Fritz Hans Wenscher were victorious at Le Mans in the 2-litre class.
Huschke von Hanstein and Walter Bäumer won a magnificent victory in the 1940 Mille Miglia with the Le Mans Coupé from Touring in 8:54:46.3 hours and at an average speed of 166.7 km/h. The participating roadsters finished in positions three, five and six.
