A new interpretation of masterpieces from art history. Classics “popped” and in a new light.
“Translated” into the language of the artist.
Robert Indiana’s motif “Love” was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1964 as a Christmas card. As the card bore the museum’s copyright notice and not Indiana’s, the artist had lost the rights to the lettering. This meant that LOVE could be copied and modified in advertising as well as being adapted by various artists.
Indiana complained that everyone knew his LOVE, but nobody had the slightest idea what he himself looked like.
Robert Indiana’s first version was created in 1964 as a Christmas card commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
